Alexis / Millar Western Scholarships
Over the course of many years of shared work and friendship, the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation and Millar Western have developed important bonds. In 2004 Millar Western and the Alexis Nation signed a Forestry and Economic Development Agreement (FEDA), setting new opportunities and responsibilities for joint action in environmental stewardship and economic development.
Among the activities outlined under the FEDA, Millar Western supports Alexis community members in their pursuit of higher education by making scholarships available to students attending post-secondary educational institutions. The scholarships are funded by Millar Western, but administered and awarded by the FEDA's Environmental Co-Stewardship Committee (ECSC), which manages FEDA activities and includes representatives of the community, the company and the provincial government. Under the program, up to six scholarships, valued at $1000.00 each, are made available every year to eligible students.
Grant MacEwan College
In 2001, Millar Western established an endowment through which two $500 scholarships are awarded each year to B.Sc. and B.Eng. students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement in combination with community involvement and financial need.
